‘Pestemal’ Artisanal Handmade Turkish Towel
Thin layer of drying cloth.
Paştemal occupies less space while also being more absorbent and drying more rapidly than ordinary towels, making it perfect for use in travel, the gym, the spa, or home.
Paştemal (or Turkish Towel) derives from Farsi, meaning a towel specific to public baths or a protective cloth for wiping one’s hands during manual labor. Today, Peştemal is multifunctional as the rectangular, handwoven cloth still finds use as a cover in public baths while also serving as a beach blanket, hand towel, bath rug, bed cover, or shawl.
Stonewashed and naturally rooted, these towels have been handwoven for generations by Turkish women in small villages where weaving looms are commonplace. Therefore, Paştemal is a fair-trade product and their sales support women in this region.
The light, easy-to-clean, and naturally sourced material is both ecologically friendly and no animals are used in its production.
